Ramble through the nature reserves and moorlands, take a guided tour to spot wild herbs or bird-calls. Whichever season you choose, the wealth of natural life is unforgettable.

World-Famous: The Islands in the "Bavarian Sea"

copyright VV ChiemseeLovers of the art, nature-lovers, adventurers and romantics are equally enthusiastic about the "Fraueninsel" (women's island) and the "Herreninsel" (men's island). - The "Fraueninsel": Already from afar the over thousand-year-old convent with its solid belltower calls across in greeting. The island is not only the home of the well-known Benedictine nuns but for many generations it has also been the home of fishermen's families - and artists who draw their power necessary for their work from the idyll of the island. An excellent gastronomy looks after the island's visitors - in particular with the "Schmankerln" (delicacies) supplied by the lake - the fish specialties - widely famous! But the island is also a place to let the soul relax!

The island "Herrenchiemsee" is the absolute opposite. On foot or by a horse-drawn coach the ways lead to the New Palace - the magnificent monument of King Ludwig II. A guided tour through the palatial rooms of the "fairytale king" and a visit to the KING LUDWIG II.-MUSEUM in the right side wing of the palace, will provide you an insight into the life and work of the famous Bavarian fairytale king.
